GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Assessor's Office is responsible for the equitable valuation of all real and personal property in the town in accordance with Connecticut State Statues. Real Estate is assessed at 70 percent of market value.
The Assessor's office provides services to town officials, departments, commissions, surveyors, attorneys, title searchers, real estate appraiser, F.B.I. and United States Internal Revenue Services, and the general public.
On matters relating to assessments and elderly the Assessors' office prepares and calculates the homeowners forms to be sent to the state for approval, this includes the Veterans.
Services are also offered to all taxpayers who may have questions regarding their assessments.
All public act 490 Farm and Forest reductions are implemented by the Assessor. Survey maps are also updated yearly, and transferred on the the Assessors' maps.
PERSONAL PROPERTY:
Declarations are due in the Assessor's office by November 1st each year. If the owner of a business chooses to request an extension for filing the form, a written request for a one month extension must be received in the Assessor's office by November 1st. A 25% penalty assessment is levied for failure to file a declaration for filing a declaration that is late.
